​MPI are assisting our client based in Stafford with their current requirement Carpenter/Joiner as listed below.

This will be for 6 months with a view to being extended if the business needs continue to grow.

This client has deemed this role to be in-scope of IR35 and therefore the hourly rate is £12.22 PAYE, with potential overtime and weekend work (not guaranteed)

JOB PURPOSE
To maintain and manufacture Specific To Contents Containers1 and bespoke items in accordance with Defence Standards for Air, Land and Maritime and other customer requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB
To carry out tasks, directed by Team Leader, observing and complying with the requirements laid down in quality procedures, relevant publications ( Defence Packaging Standard 81-41), technical drawings and complies with all statutory requirements such as COSHH.

Promptly report defective equipment or property, accidents or incidents to the Team Leader/Supervisor, assisting in subsequent investigation and reports as directed.

Interpret engineer drawings and verbal instruction in order to produce what is required to meet customer requirements.

Ensure the correct cut and machine authorised materials are used i.e. environmentally certified timber, board and packing material.

Ensure the correct machines and tools are used to produce the required items.
Apply protective finishes by hand including stenciling, graphics and authorisation markings as required.
Identify any design problems, product or material deficiency and report immediately and keep management informed and updated of work in progress.

These containers are very specific to the contents they will hold, and are designed to protect high value contents and are made to measure.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL
Be familiar with technical and complex engineering drawings.
Interpret concepts to create cutting lists, cut materials and manufacture items.
Knowledge of inspection and operation of fixed machinery, hand held electrical appliances and portable machinery.

Creativity coupled with precisions to produce items where concepts are vague or issues arise from wrong materials, and use skill and knowledge be able to resolve the problem.

Be able to turn to another task at a moment’s notice, in order to meet customer’s needs.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS OF THE JOB
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external customers
and suppliers by telephone, email and face-to-face.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Standing, stooping, crawling and kneeling for long periods.
Manual lifting.
Repetitive work.
Working at height.
Wearing of PPE and RPE for long periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Specific to tasking carpentry wood mill & workshop. The main body of the work carried the workshops including restricted access areas. Most tasks require the use of some form of Petroleum, Oils or Lubricants (POL), paints, adhesives and solvents and machinery and equipment the use of which is controlled and all relevant safety equipment and PPE is required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
An understanding of English and Mathematics.
Computer literate
Advanced City and Guilds in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent.
Apprenticeship served or on job training equivalent.
An understanding of The Woodworking Machines Regulations 1974.
