Construction Manager (Roadways, Drainage & Tarmac)
Location:Leicester
Contract Type: 3-Month Contract (Potential Extension)
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP
Rate: Competitive Day Rate (DOE)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee civil infrastructure and surfacing works on a fast-paced project based in Leicester. The successful candidate will have strong experience managing roadways, drainage, and tarmac/asphalt operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.
This is initially a 3-month contract with the possibility of extension depending on project requirements and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day site operations across highways, drainage, and surfacing works
Coordinate subcontractors, labour, plant, and material deliveries
Ensure works are completed in line with programme deadlines and quality standards
Oversee road construction, kerbing, drainage installation, and tarmac surfacing activities
Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with HSE regulations
Liaise with clients, engineers, local authorities, and project stakeholders
Produce progress reports and attend site meetings
Identify and resolve site issues efficiently to minimise delays
Ensure RAMS, permits, and site documentation are maintained correctly
Required Experience & Skills
Proven experience as a Construction Manager or Site Manager within civil engineering/highways projects
Strong background in:
Road construction and reinstatement
Drainage installation and infrastructure works
Tarmac/asphalt surfacing
Groundworks and highways projects
Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and workstreams
Strong understanding of CDM regulations and site safety requirements
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Essential Qualifications
SMSTS
CSCS Card
First Aid at Work
NRSWA / Street Works (desirable)
Temporary Works Coordinator (desirable)
Desirable Experience
Experience working on local authority or highways frameworks
Knowledge of NEC contracts
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and programmes
