Electronics Avionics Engineer (to be trained as a Medical & Dental Service Technician)

Starting Salary £25,826 per annum

Summary

To inspect, install, service and repair all types of medical, dental and veterinary equipment for the MoD whilst working predominantly at customer’s sites.

Location Stafford - Travel to other Sites

Plan scheduled equipment programs for the team including liaison with customer.

Inspection, installation, servicing and repair of various types of Medical, Dental & Veterinary equipment held by MoD customer units.

Diagnosis of faults to major component level and specification testing of all Medical & Dental equipment (both Mechanical and Electronic) using MoD publications and Manufacturers manuals.

Respond to breakdowns and emergency call-outs as soon as reasonably practical, taking into account priorities and customer target dates.

Co-ordinate the provision of spares with MDSS customer and equipment OEM’s.

Be responsible for the investigation, completion and maintenance of all associated assessments, inspections and checks.

Safety is a primary consideration and work of high integrity is paramount .

You will be required to hold a full UK driving licence and maintain a high level of driving competence at all times when driving a our Clients vehicle.

Job description

Plan and carry out scheduled equipment servicing and inspections in liaison with the customer whilst working at the customers site.

Plan and carry out unscheduled servicing, repairs and tests prior to issue in liaison with the customer.

Manage and co-ordinate manpower and resources to meet planned targets to achieve a high level of serviceability and reduce equipment down time.

Required to make on the spot engineering decisions on equipment, including withdrawal from use where patient or user safety is concerned.

Act as a Subject Matter Expert on issues including equipment care and maintenance, records and document keeping, future equipment and infrastructure requirements.

Be a Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) both for the work carried out by yourself and in an advisory capacity for the customer, maintaining the radiation dosimeters worn locally by the MDSS Team and ensuring they are sent to DSTL for monitoring and the results are observed and acted upon if necessary.

Keep up to date with current equipment servicing requirements as detailed in the Army Equipment Support Publications documents (AESP’s), Defence Infrastructure Notices (DIN’s) and Joint Service Publications (JSP’s).

Use Perseus, the inhouse medical and dental management database, as is required by JSP473 and relevant AESP’s, to:

• Plan upcoming work schedules.

• Maintain equipment histories and current site holdings.

• Maintain site information and contact information.

• Raise and close down completed scheduled jobs.

• Raise, progress and close down unscheduled jobs.

• Register new equipment’s following a TPI.

• Order spares required for all aspects of the job. Both servicing consumables and job/repair specific spare parts.

• Manage the calibration of the locally held test equipment.

The raising and control of all necessary maintenance and performance records as required by JSP 473 and relevant AESP’s

Maintain the serviceability of locally held test equipment, ensuring it’s within calibration. To raise and administer contracts for the servicing, repair and calibration of Medical, Dental and Test equipment. This includes despatching the items and receipting when complete. These contracts are arranged through the Equipment Managers nominated contractor using AFG 8800

Maintain the stocks of locally held office consumables and restocking when required by completing the internal Request for Contract Action (RCA) process.

Maintain the locally held PPE. Using the RCA process for any items required.

Maintain COSHH management and risk assessments.

Maintain the MDSS leased vehicles held locally, including completion of daily Authority to use Document (ATUD) and co-ordinating servicing and repairs.

To act as storekeeper for any spares received.

To administer the repair of any equipment’s requiring servicing/repair by the OEM. Through the AFG8800 process with Team Leidos.

To carry out training as required. Both equipment/work specific and civil service mandatory training.

Mentor and train new starters and apprentices.

For MDSS’s at remote locations i.e. not attached to a supporting our clients workshop facility there are extra responsibilities:

• Arrange maintenance, repair and security of their buildings and fixtures, also attending mandatory safety and security meeting at parent unit.

• Arrange with couriers collection and delivery of any equipment requiring off site repair and calibration. This includes packaging of said items.

Comply with the customers local radiation rules.

FURTHER DETAILED INFORMATION

Recognised and relevant training/qualifications in an Electronic & Electronic Engineering or Military equivalent . This is a pre-requisite to get onto MOD Lyneham course. If the candidate does not have this qualification, they will not get on the course. They check  every candidate.

MoD biomedical engineering certificate as required by JSP 473. If completed previously, just refresher course will be required and will be arranged once employed.

Successful applicant will be required to attend a three month course and qualify in the Medical, Dental and veterinary course at the Defence School of Electronic & Mechanical Engineering, currently held at Lyneham. Required to complete and pass to be able to successfully work on and sign for Medical and Dental equipment.

Responsibilities

Essential:

Recognised and relevant training/qualifications in an Electronic & Electronic Engineering or Military equivalent

Full UK driving licence

MoD biomedical engineering certificate as required by JSP 473 or will agree to attend a 12 week residential course (currently MoD Lyneham) prior to starting in the post.

Desirable:

A working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. (Word, Excel etc.).
