MPI have a requirement for a Fleet Operative, reporting to the Fleet Operation Supervisor, responsible for providing a transport service, which includes driving a variety of military and civilian vehicles, on and off road.

 

Rate of pay: CAT D&C £15.39 per hour Umbrella PAYE(This equates to £11.96 per hour PAYE)/CAT D only £14.50 per hour Umbrella PAYE.(This equates to £11.29 per hour PAYE)

 

Contract is until the end of March 2021

 

Applicants will be required to drive off site. Local training bases are approx. 20-30 miles but may be required to travel 40-50 miles incl. Salisbury plain


Hours: typically are 8-4.30 Mon – Thurs/ 8-4 on Friday (the core site hours are between 6.30AM & 10AM)


Overtime: not guaranteed but could be required on an as & when basis. If working over 7.5 hours rates are ‘time & a half’, if over 7.5 hours on a Sunday or BHol it is ‘double time’ and any hours before 6.30AM is also ‘double time’


Clearance: BPSS will be required and also if CAT D&C, you will require 8 day training course that can be done whilst waiting to be cleared.

If you are Cat D&C, you will be driving what our Clients class as their ‘Green Vehicles’ so the troop carrying vehicles incl. ttrucks, military lorries and Land Rovers 2.

If you are a Cat D only drivers – this will be considered, but preferably you will be D&C as will only be able to operate the coaches and minibuses if not.

AVR class 1 is desirable

Main Tasks:-

  • To transport eligible personnel and/or equipment to and from the appropriate training exercise or other entitled military duty and ensure their safe carriage

  • To drive any one of the multi-disciplined vehicles including the PSV & LGV fleet

  • Complete Before, During and After Use Checks

  • Perform Level 1 maintenance tasks

  • Complete department administrative tasks when required

  • Deal with the day to day customer queries in a professional, positive and enthusiastic manner

  • Contribute towards the continuous improvement of the Fleet department

  • Ensure health, safety and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures are complied with at all times

  • Responsible for supporting continuous improvement within the department and contribution towards the RSME contracts continuous improvement targets

  • Comply with all Quality Assurance processes and procedures

  • Deputise for others in your department

  • Complete any other tasks that are deemed within your area of competence

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent (including Maths & English).

  • Experience working with multi-categorised fleet including PSV, HGV; holding UK driving license Categories: D&C or D only

 

Desirable:

  • ADR (Carriage of Dangerous Goods)

  • Experienced Plant Operator or Crane Operator or Lorry Mounted Loader operator.

  • Qualified First Aid at Work

  • Qualified IOSH Working Safely

  • Experience working within military motor transport regulations
