MPI are currently recruiting for a Freight ETCS Project Manager based in Chippenham (Wiltshire)

Ideal start date would be 05/07/2021 until  30/06/2022

This role is Outside IR35

Salary: Negotiable

Job Description 

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Project Manager will assume management of Work Packages for the Freight ETCS Onboard fitment project within the ETCS Onboard portfolio of Rail Infrastructure New Technology.  This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of the roll out of Digital Signalling in the UK and will provide the successful applicant with a diverse and rewarding role. The Freight ETCS retrofit contract is that largest contract of its kind in the UK and consequently maintains a high profile within our Client and across the wider UK rail industry.

 The day-to-day management of the Work Packages in accordance with the Business Management System (BMS) will be complemented by effective management of RI team members as well as of the numerous stakeholders including suppliers, client and end-users across a commercially and technically challenging project landscape. Whilst the core location is Chippenham (Wiltshire), a flexible working pattern will be considered and occasional travel across the country will be required.

 

What are my responsibilities?

  •  Safe delivery of the Work Packages, to the contract, meeting the specific project objectives within agreed timescales and budget delivering the maximum margin, whilst ensuring that the Business Management System is applied

  • Be recognised as a Safety Leader for the Project

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the RI Team, the Client and wider Stakeholders

  • Ensure progress is maintained whilst risks and issues are effectively managed through supportive and collaborative working

  • Interface with resource managers to ensure Work Packages are defined and supported

  • Ensuring that the necessary inputs and outputs between the Client and Contractor are understood, detailed and delivered in accordance with the baseline programme

  • Monitor progress against specific project programme and budget, identifying and mitigating diverse trends through effective corrective management action

  • Monitor progress and status of the Work Packages throughout project lifecycles ensuring timely and accurate reports are prepared as required by the Client.

  • This shall include:

 - Project Planning and Earned Value based progress analysis and reporting

- Work Package Status against the Project Programme

- Risk analysis and Management

- Proactive Issue Management

- Detailed Financial analysis and control

- KPIs specific to each Work Package

 

  • Ensure the implementation of the Change Management Process and the approval of any changes to scope, baselined programmes and budgets is being maintained

  • Seek continuous improvement with all Work Packages and proactively sponsor initiatives to improve the way in which they are delivered

 

What do I need to qualify for this job? 

  •  Degree/HND qualified with extensive project management experience and have business management experience (essential)

 

Previous experience of:

  • Management of high value and technically challenging capital investment projects involving a high degree of Stakeholder interface (essential), within the Rail industry (preferably)

  • Delivery of project or portfolios through the full project life cycle (essential)

  • Management and integration of multidisciplinary project teams (essential)

  • Development and implementation of innovative project execution strategies (essential)

  • Management of Project Control function covering Planning, Estimating, Financial Control and commercial management disciplines (essential)

  • Management of company compliance with local Health and Safety statutory obligations (essential)

 

Ability to:
