A Test Manager is required to join the R&D Department to support the delivery of ground-breaking railway signalling products and solutions.  The product portfolio supports both mainline and mass transit railways and includes safety-critical and safety-related products.

The Test Manager will work closely with product development teams, project teams and other stakeholders, working collaboratively to achieve testing milestones, as well as owning, maintaining, and managing the test activities.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Own the test plans that describe how new products or system configurations will be tested across the entire lifecycle.

  • Own and manage the use of multiple test rigs and facilities (both physical and virtual). 

  • Manage the resource and tasking for various stages of test activities for multiple parallel Product releases and project deployments.

  • Assure sprint output

  • Co-ordinate product, product integration, system integration, scheme testing, validation, and cross product testing scopes

  • Take the lead with getting systems operational in the factory, working closely with the product development teams, to identify and diagnose problems proactively.

  • Develop the capability of the team, both via advanced tools but also domain knowledge

  • Produce test specifications to define formal test runs, report those test runs, and record defects in accordance with the company process.

  • Contribute to project meetings (e.g., test reviews, milestone reviews, change control board, progress reviews, etc.).

  • Own the automation test suite

  • Identify test process and tools improvements.

  • Assess the impact of the changes between system releases and assist with selection of test cases for regression and retesting.

  • Participate in the formal reviews of requirements, designs, test specifications and other product or system documentation, in accordance with the company process.

  • Occasionally there may be visits to customer sites to assist in testing and commissioning

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in an engineering, scientific or numerate discipline (essential).

  • Experience in end-to-end systems integration, product testing, or both. Experience should not be limited to software-only systems and you may be expected to apply test techniques to products with specialized hardware (essential).

  • Good knowledge of various test automation technologies and approaches and integration into a Dev Ops pipeline (essential)

  • Experience of preparing test plans, test specifications and test reports (essential).

  • Experience of Testing methodologies (Scrum/Agile/Waterfall/V&V etc.) and types of testing (functional, non-functional, smoke, extended/reliability, security etc.) (essential).

  • Good inter-personal and communication skills, the ability to manage and work with a team. Also, the ability to communicate with customers and other parts of the business (essential).

  • Strong analytical abilities.  Able to understand complex products and systems (essential).

  • Experience of working with configuration management and change control systems (essential).

  • Experience of working on safety systems (desirable).

  • Knowledge of Railway Signalling and interlocking equipment (desirable).
