Job Title: ​Senior Power Engineer

Contract Dates: ASAP - 31/10/2022

Part time role (2-3 days a week) to support the E&P site installation activities on Core Valley Lines Project.

Job Scope:

You will provide technical support to ensure the successful delivery of projects on programme and within budget and in conformance with Siemens Mobility and Transport for Wales safety and quality requirements.

Initially the role will be for reduced hours (2-3 shifts a week) to be reviewed as required.

 

Role:

Experienced in low voltage distribution systems including 650V IT systems for Railway signalling power supplies. You will be working on the Core Valleys Lines Project based out of Treforest Depot or Taffs Well Depot. The role is a predominately site-based position, and you shall be responsible for supervising and managing the electrical installation associated with the scheme in line with the E&P CRE expectations.

You will also supervise a team of sub-contractors, ensuring the works are installed to the correct standards and are of suitable quality, scheduling the work package and monitor and report the progress through to completion.

We believe this would best suit those with an installation and testing background, who are familiar with Projects within the rail industry.


Key Duties:

  • Oversee and support of all electrical installations associated with Core Valley Lines Project.

    • Low-Cost Modular Signalling installation, test and commissioning.

    • Signalling power installation, test and commissioning.

    • Points Heating installation, test and commissioning.

    • CVL Control Center installation, test and commissioning.

    • WROC installation, test and commissioning.

    • Riverside Alarms installation, test and commissioning.

    • DNO installation, test and commissioning.

  • Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of power distribution system, installation and testing work in order that successful project implementation and future reliability is achieved.

  • Ensure that the construction and testing targets are met and effective remedial action on power distribution systems as instructed by the E&P CRE to ensure successful project implementation and future reliability is achieved.

  • Undertake Supervisor duties for signalling power and other plant items as required by the project including management of sub-contractors.

  • Oversee management of key subcontracts (in conjunction with project Work Package Managers and Commercial Staff).

  • Ensure the project programme is updated on a weekly basis (in conjunction with E&P CRE).

  • Writing & Reviewing Test & Commissioning plans to support on-going works.

  • Prepare a weekly progress report on E&P Installation activities.

  • Attend progress and design review meetings as required.

  • Attend Factory acceptance testing and Site Acceptance testing on behalf of the company.

  • Carry out safety and quality audits.

  • Perform duties as directed by the E&P CRE from time to time.

  • Reporting to the E&P CRE on the progress of Work Packages, Risks & Issues arising etc. on a regular basis.

  • Liaising with project work package managers to ensure coordination of inputs and outputs for dependent parts of the project programme.

  • Highlighting any deviation from programme to the E&P CRE in a timely manner.

  • Liaising with the relevant professional head to ensure standards are met.

 

Qualifications, skills and experience required

Essential

  • Competent in CDM.

  • Approved Electrician (City and Guild 2330 or equivalent)

  • Qualified to inspect and test electrical installations in accordance with City and Guilds 2391.

  • Working knowledge of Network Rail and British/European Standards.

  • Personnel Track Safety (PTS) training

  • Control of Site Saefty (COSS)

  • Safe Work Leader (SWL)

  • Ability to work to tight timescales

  • Experience of Low Voltage distribution systems (installation and testing practices),

  • Understanding of traditional 650V IT systems for signalling power supplies.

  • Competent in electrical power engineering principles.

  • Good communication and time management skills.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - ability to deliver key messages efficiently and effectively, tailoring the approach to the audience as appropriate, in order to promote action.

  • Full UK Driving license.

  • Experience of Factory acceptance testing and Site acceptance testing of electrical systems.
