​Senior Project Manager

The Senior Project Manager (Portfolio) will assist the Head of Delivery, in the delivery of the signalling and associated works for the HS2 Bid & Tendering portfolio, including the management of suppliers and sub contract organisations.

What are my responsibilities?

• Safe delivery of the portfolio, to the ‘as sold’ specification meeting the specific project objectives within agreed timescales and budget delivering the maximum margin, whilst ensuring that the Business Management System is applied throughout the project lifecycle

• Be recognised as a Safety Leader in the Portfolio

• Ensure that effective Safety and Environmental management of the projects has been implemented and is being maintained; ensuring that each of the project delivery functions has systems in place to cover its safety requirements. The SPM (Portfolio) shall ensure that regular audits are undertaken to ensure that the systems are in use and are effective

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Client throughout specific project lifecycles

• Interface with the Regional Engineering Manager to ensure that projects have defined Work Packages and mobilised or requested the necessary resources required for the execution of thier projects. Thereafter the SPM (Portfolio) shall monitor the progress in collaboration with respective project managers

• Ensure that Project Management Plans are in place and being updated to reflect the dynamics of the project through its lifecycle. This will detail the project implementation procedures in line with the Business Management System and the as sold Project Execution strategy

• Ensure the implementation of Quality Assurance throughout the Project Lifecycle through effective implementation of the Siemens Quality Assurance process

• Ensuring that the necessary inputs and outputs between the functions (Client and Siemens) are fully understood and detailed and delivered in accordance with the baseline programme

• Monitor progress against specific project programme and budget, identifying and mitigating diverse trends through effective corrective management action

• Monitor each project progress and its status throughout project lifecycles ensuring timely and accurate reports are prepared as required by the Client and Siemens

This shall include:

- Project Planning and Earned Value based progress analysis and reporting

- Work Package Status against the Project Programme

- Resource Management

- Risk analysis and management

- Site Setup & Mobilisation

- Proactive Issue Management

- Detailed Financial analysis and control

- KPIs specific to each project

• Ensure the the implementation of the Change Management Process and the approval of any changes to scope, base lined programmes and budgets is being maintained by project managers

• Ensuring that warranty management especially closure of snagging list items, commercial closeout activities and final handover to After Market Support is completed by projects

• Seek continuous improvement with all portfolio projects and proactively sponsor initiatives to improve the way in which the projects are delivered

What do I need to qualify for this job?

• Degree/HND qualified with extensive project management experience and have business management experience (essential)

• Previous experience of

• Management of high value capital investment projects involving a high degree of Client interface, within the Rail Signalling industry (essential)

• Delivery of project or portfolios through the full project life cycle (essential)

• Management and integration of multidisciplinary project teams (essential)

• Development and implementation of innovative project execution strategies (essential)

• Management of Project Control function covering Planning, Estimating, Financial Control and commercial management disciplines (essential)

• Management of company compliance with local Health and Safety statutory obligations (essential)

• Ability to maintain margin in a competitive customer environment (essential)

• Ability to anticipate problems and to take mitigating actions in advance of the problem being realised (essential)

• Ability to identify, integrate and manage the project stakeholders (essential)

• Ability to manage within an environment of constant change (essential)

• Ability to influence and lead other functions not necessary with their direct management line (essential)

• Financial Control: Experience of managing expenditure and control of budgets within a project environment

• Commercial management: Experience of managing project delivery compliance with Contractual terms and conditions and have commercial awareness of the requirements of the forms of contract commonly used within the signalling industry: e.g. Lump Sum, Target cost and fully reimbursable forms of contract with gain share mechanisms
