At MPI our dedicated team supply temporary signalling personnel on Network Rail, London Underground, Metro Systems and NIR. Supplying installation, new works testing, signal maintenance and points fitting personnel, working on mainline re-signalling, re-modelling, systems, S&C renewals, London Underground and specialist projects across the entire UK. All personnel supplied hold IRSE Licence in the category they will be working as and will hold a certificate of
competency detailing the specific equipment types they are competent and experienced to work on, granted by MPI’s independent Technical Assessors and
Professional Head of Signalling.
MPI has over 250 signal works testers registered on the Network Rail Database. Since 1990 we have undertaken signalling work on hundreds of projects from The Highlands, Glasgow and Edinburgh to the East Coast, Anglia and West Coast, across the midlands and central areas, through Wales and South West, Sussex and the London and South East regions and on projects such as Crossrail and HS2. MPI supply temporary telecoms personnel on Network Rail, London Underground and Metro across the UK. MPI has been supplying projects such as FTN, GSM-R, SCADA and Crossrail with 45 T&C Engineers with installation, test and commission personnel since 1990. Providing competent, trained, skilled and
experienced personnel that also hold IRSE Licence and also Fibre Installation, Test and Splicing. We are able to utilise a training centre in Northampton to train personnel on bespoke Telcom equipment.
Our Rolling Stock capability has grown and developed for over 50 years and we have a proven track record of working closely with the leading train manufacturing companies, maintenance companies, component manufacture, repair companies and train operators.
MPI have successfully supplied over 35 UK locations at any one time, providing over 70 personnel on specific sites. MPI are proud to be current approved suppliers to a number of the train operating companies across the UK .We encourage a policy of regular site visits for ongoing project support, appraisals for competencies, health and safety and productivity for our staff throughout the contract. MPI use the appointment of team leaders and staff coordinators to structure your workforce as required. In fact the closer we work with you the more streamlined our service becomes thus ensuring the personnel we supply have the correct competence and experience to undertake the specified work. MPI personnel and our clients are supported on site with bespoke training, medical/D&A screening and administration.
Our rolling stock capability and experience includes production, new build, test and commissioning, warranty programmes, VMI , maintenance exams, overhaul, internal and external refurbishment, modification, Installation, livery and crash repair. Working on many high profile projects, MPI have supplied all grades of Civils personnel both as individuals and teams/gangs for entire durations of projects and and key additional shifts as needed. Our database of personnel cover the entire UK and each worker undergoes assessment from our independent technical assessor who in turn creates a certificate of competence to ensure a high level of competence is maintained. Our experience includes signal gantry erection, troughing, cable pulling, bases for PSP’s, REB’s and location cases, access steps and many other bespoke solutions. Teams are supplied with all tools required to complete the works and a van (with or without welfare facilities) for the duration of the project.
MPI has a dedicated team for supplying protection personnel, experienced in all geographical regions. Our workers have local knowledge and full required equipment which is checked on site during safety tours. They take personal responsibility and pride in delivering a well set up safe system of work. protection to safe work planning and any grade in between MPI has knowledge to support each project and can also undertake the safe work planning for your
MPI has an excellent track record of safely and successfully delivering over 300 fixed price projects across the UK over the last 10 years. Projects such as 15 platform extensions from Waterloo to Windsor, upgrading 70 location cases under SIN119 improvements, re-instating sidings, points re-furb /replacement/ heavy maintenance, S&C renewals, signalling support for plain line renewals and timber renewals, testing and commissioning management, testing strategies and consultancy and installation and cable teams with installation supervision and management. With dedicated and experienced teams we can support under signal maintenance and new works testing regimes across the UK, a dedicated project manager, programme manager and QS can be provided as part of the cost alongside CRE and testing managers where required. MPI has the capability to deliver projects that range in value from £500.00 up to £10m.
Statistics demonstrate that human factors and complacency are the leading causes of accidents on the railway, we have been training our Aviation personnel in human factors since 2006 with excellent results. In rail we have worked in partnership with many of our clients to train and develop the personnel we supply to understand how their unsafe behaviour on site can lead to them endangering themselves, their colleagues and the passengers and public. Using our newsletters which are issued quarterly, we support and reward good safety behaviour and invite their interaction of our workers to be leaders of safe behaviours. MPI has adopted ‘4 Steps to Zero Harm’ as best practice to support the Network Rail Life Saving Rules and we incorporate this into our safety tour programme and all our PPE is branded with the 4 steps. MPI commits to spending 20% of our time out on site talking to and working with our workers and undertaking joint safety tours with our clients, this is one of our leadingsafe behaviours.
We introduced our apprenticeship and trainee programme to proactively encourage new people into the rail industry and in turn, to take steps to address the
decline in the availability of high quality labour. We initially took on a number of engineering apprentices including 2 aircraft engineering trainees that we assigned to the Airbus Programme. Internally we have put 5 apprentices through our programme, 3 of which have now completed their NVQ qualifications and joined our team permanently and 2 are still completing their programme. Our trainee scheme was developed to demonstrate our commitment to working with local communities, reducing the risk of fatigue and bridging the skills gap. We wanted to open a scheme up to a diverse pool of potential talent with an inclusive approach and to ensure that those from economically disadvantaged areas were able to complete the scheme and we achieved this by ensuring people were paid whilst training, covering the costs of travel and subsistence and providing tool kits. In 2019 over 60 people have now completed the scheme and gained their IRSE licences. MPI has the capacity to grow this scheme within all areas which we are really excited about. This sustainable approach to generating new talent for each sector is underpinned by our internal trainer who is also a Mental Health Practitioner and Stress Counsellor and he uses the scheme to provide interaction and good practices to identify and support individuals as required.
