We are looking for an experienced Unmanned Air System Production Technician to join a multidisciplinary production operations team working on the assembly, integration, testing, maintenance and repair of advanced unmanned aircraft systems and associated ground support equipment.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the delivery of safe, reliable and mission-ready UAS platforms. You will work closely with engineers, operators, customers and suppliers, supporting system integration and pre-delivery preparation.
Previous UAS experience is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in avionics, electronics, electrical engineering, aerospace, robotics or a related technical discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, install and integrate avionics, electrical systems, electronic Line Replaceable Units, sensors, payloads and wiring harnesses.
- Configure and test flight controllers, autopilots, navigation equipment, telemetry, command-and-control links, data acquisition systems and ground control stations.
- Carry out scheduled and unscheduled inspections, functional testing, fault diagnosis, repairs and component replacement.
- Load approved firmware and software, maintain configuration status and verify system operation following updates.
- Interpret and apply wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, technical instructions and maintenance data.
- Use electronic test equipment, including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, RF test equipment and specialist diagnostic tools.
- Analyse flight and ground-test data to identify intermittent faults, performance issues and underlying causes.
- Support payload integration, aircraft rigging and pre-delivery checks.
- Complete accurate build, inspection, test, maintenance, defect and configuration records.
- Identify hazards, report occurrences and contribute to risk assessments, investigations and corrective actions.
- Liaise effectively with engineers, operators, customers and suppliers.
- Provide practical guidance and support to less-experienced technicians where authorised.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Level 3 technical qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in avionics, electronics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, robotics or a related discipline.
- Practical experience assembling, inspecting, testing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical or electronic systems.
- Competence in cable manufacture, crimping, connector assembly, continuity and insulation testing, and high-quality soldering.
- Ability to read and apply technical drawings, wiring schedules, schematics and maintenance instructions.
- Experience using electronic test equipment and diagnostic software safely and methodically.
- A strong understanding of electrical safety, electrostatic discharge controls, tool control, foreign object prevention and safe systems of work.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently within delegated authority and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Competence using standard Windows applications, electronic records and maintenance or configuration-management systems.
- Eligibility to obtain and retain any security clearance required for assigned projects.
- Ability to travel to site at varying times; a full UK driving licence would be advantageous.
Desirable Experience
- HNC or HND in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Previous experience with unmanned aircraft, flight-control systems, autopilots, command-and-control links, RF systems, telemetry or payload integration.
- Experience working in aerospace, defence, aviation, robotics or other highly regulated engineering environments.
