Are you a highly experienced Controls Engineer ready to take the technical lead on cutting-edge gas turbine control system projects?
MPI is recruiting a Principal Controls Engineer to join an innovative engineering business specialising in gas turbine control system retrofits and upgrades. This is a senior technical leadership role where you'll shape software design, mentor engineers and oversee the delivery of advanced PLC-based control solutions from concept through to commissioning.
What you'll be doing
- Leading the design and development of PLC-based control systems for gas turbine retrofit projects
- Developing software for governors, sequencers and temperature monitoring systems
- Providing technical leadership and mentoring to the Controls Engineering team
- Reviewing and approving software, hardware and system designs
- Supporting tender submissions and providing technical expertise during customer meetings
- Leading Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT) and supporting commissioning activities
- Working closely with engineering, projects and QHSE teams to deliver high-quality solutions
- Driving continuous improvement and helping develop the company's future controls capability
What we're looking for
- Degree in Electrical, Control or Automation Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years' experience with PLC-based control systems
- Proven experience developing software and hardware for gas turbine control systems
- Strong commissioning and installation experience
- Previous technical leadership or mentoring experience
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Passion for engineering excellence, innovation and continuous improvement
Experience with fluid systems, pressure reduction, variable speed drives, Siemens legacy engines, GEC Jet Turbines, Rushton engines, control panels, fuel skids or balance/surge control systems would be highly advantageous.
