Join a highly skilled powerplant team supporting a busy engine bay operation in Luton, working on some of the most advanced commercial aircraft engines in service today. This is a hands-on contract role where your experience, precision and adherence to standards directly impact aircraft reliability and customer confidence.
About the Role:
You will be responsible for the servicing, repair and component changes of GEnx-1B, CFM LEAP-1B (1B27) and CFM56-7 engines within a dedicated engine bay environment. Working to approved maintenance data and procedures, you will ensure engines are maintained to the highest technical and safety standards. Your work will contribute to on-time delivery of engines and support operational performance for multiple airline customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled servicing on GEnx-1B, CFM LEAP-1B (1B27) and CFM56-7 engines in the engine bay.
- Carry out engine component changes, strip and build tasks, and modular work in accordance with OEM manuals and approved data.
- Conduct detailed inspections, fault finding and rectification of engine defects, recording all findings accurately.
- Complete all maintenance documentation, work packs and records to regulatory and company standards.
- Use approved tooling and equipment safely and correctly, ensuring proper calibration and care.
- Liaise with supervisors, planners and quality staff to ensure work is prioritised, progressed and released on time.
- Maintain a clean, organised and compliant work area, supporting continuous improvement and best practice.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in an aircraft engine bay or powerplant maintenance role.
- Hands-on experience performing servicing, component changes and repairs on large commercial aircraft engines.
- Strong understanding of engine maintenance procedures, technical documentation and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to interpret and work from OEM manuals, work cards and engineering instructions.
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on safety, quality and compliance.
- Able to work to tight deadlines and adapt to changing maintenance priorities.
Desirable Skills:
- Previous experience specifically on GEnx-1B, CFM LEAP-1B (1B27) and/or CFM56-7 engine types.
- Familiarity with engine bay workflow, engine stand operations and shop visit processes.
- Experience working within Part 145 or equivalent approved maintenance organisations.
Qualifications:
- Completed aircraft engineering apprenticeship (preferably powerplant-focused) with supporting documentation.
- Recognised aviation maintenance qualification (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent) in Aircraft Maintenance or Aeronautical Engineering.
- Additional OEM or type-specific training on commercial turbofan engines (preferred).
