We are currently looking for an Interoperability Engineer for a full time position. This is initially offered for 6 months but is likely to be extended.
ROLE PROFILE
The Interoperability Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating interoperability compliance activities across the Project Portfolio, acting as the primary point of contact with the Client, Approval Bodies (ApBo), Designated Bodies (DeBo), ORR and other key stakeholders.
The role is responsible for ensuring that all applicable National Technical Specification Notices (NTSNs), National Technical Rules (NTRs), interoperability constituent requirements and associated authorisation obligations are identified, managed, verified, validated and evidenced throughout the project lifecycle. Compliance shall be demonstrated against the applicable NTSN baselines and interoperability requirements agreed with the Client.
Working closely with the Lead Integrators, Design Teams, Systems Engineering Teams, Integration Teams, Test Teams and suppliers, the Interoperability Engineer will ensure interoperability requirements are embedded throughout the engineering lifecycle and supported by a complete, auditable evidence base to support assessment, authorisation and entry into service.
The postholder is accountable for coordinating the delivery of all interoperability activities required to obtain independent assessment and support authorisation of the system.
Key Responsibilities
Interoperability Management
- Act as the primary interoperability interface with the Client across all delivery packages.
- Develop, implement and maintain the Interoperability Management Plan.
- Report to the Assurance Manager on interoperability progress, risks, issues, compliance status and authorisation readiness.
- Identify, interpret and manage applicable NTSN, NTR and interoperability requirements.
- Ensure compliance is demonstrated against the applicable NTSN baselines and requirements agreed with the Client.
- Maintain the register of applicable NTSN baselines and assess the impact of legislative, regulatory and standards changes on project compliance and authorisation activities.
- Support the development and maintenance of project and programme authorisation strategies and authorisation roadmaps.
Requirements and Compliance Management
- Develop and maintain the Interoperability Compliance Matrix relevant to Siemens scope.
- Ensure interoperability requirements are fulfilled and evidenced.
- Monitor compliance status and coordinate actions required to address compliance gaps.
- Identify, assess and manage interoperability risks, issues, non-conformities, departures, derogations and exemptions, ensuring timely escalation and resolution.
Evidence and Authorisation Management
- Develop and maintain the Interoperability Evidence Register and Technical File evidence catalogue.
- Work collaboratively with design, systems engineering, integration, verification, validation, testing and commissioning teams to identify, obtain and maintain the evidence required to demonstrate compliance.
- Monitor evidence maturity and completeness throughout the project lifecycle and drive closure of evidence gaps.
- Support the preparation, compilation and submission of Intermediate Statements of Verification (ISVs), Technical Files and other authorisation documentation.
- Ensure interoperability evidence is available to support independent assessment, authorisation submissions and regulatory approvals.
- Ensure interoperability requirements are reflected within design documentation, specifications, test procedures, test reports and acceptance documentation.
- Support integration, testing, commissioning and demonstration activities where interoperability evidence is required.
- Liaise with suppliers, subsystem owners and project teams to ensure interoperability deliverables are produced in accordance with project milestones and authorisation requirements.
- Support integrated assurance activities with Safety, RAM, Security, Human Factors, EMC and Systems Engineering teams to ensure a coordinated approach to authorisation and assurance.
