ETCS Systems Engineer

Are you an experienced Systems Engineer with a background in rail and ETCS? This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of major ETCS on-board projects, supporting the early lifecycle design and integration activities that help shape safe, reliable and high-performing rail systems.
We’re recruiting on behalf of a leading organisation operating in a highly technical, safety-critical environment. This role offers the chance to work across a broad range of systems engineering tasks, collaborating with internal teams, design authorities, delivery partners and stakeholders to ensure solutions meet operational and performance requirements.

 

The role

As ETCS Systems Engineer, you’ll support allocated ETCS on-board projects from the early stages of the lifecycle, contributing to:
- Customer requirements elicitation, capture and analysis

- System requirements specification and design definition

- Product requirements development for project teams

- Train data capture and ETCS configuration data management

- Interface risk management and technical coordination - Integration of component subsystems into a single system

- Configuration control, change management and continuous improvement

- Technical support to design authorities and internal/external design teams 


You’ll also help manage technical interfaces, assess competing technical solutions, and provide progress updates and estimates for systems engineering activities. A key part of the role will be maintaining strong communication across multiple stakeholders and adapting your outputs to meet project needs.

What we’re looking for

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- Experience with the ETCS product, product data process and product configuration process

- A degree in an engineering, scientific or numerate discipline, or equivalent experience

 - Strong knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle

- Proven experience within the rail sector

- Understanding and practical experience of applying railway or ETCS standards

- Experience working to quality and safety standards

- A continuous improvement mindset

- Experience with railway technologies and their application

- Knowledge of project delivery processes would be advantageous

- Experience in safety-critical systems would be beneficial
