MPI currently have an exciting opportunity to recruit an Electronics Design Engineer within the Congleton R&D department. The successful person will work as part of a cross functional team and be responsible for enhancing existing product designs or working on new exciting development opportunities.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a person who is passionate about engineering design and innovation and wants to apply their knowledge and experience in product development, whilst at the same time having the curiosity to seek out new ways of doing things and be open to learning and growing as a person.

You should hold an electrical and electronics degree or equivalent, and ideally have knowledge of low voltage power or analogue electronics. Also, being able to demonstrate capability to learn, diversity of thinking and an excellent work ethic, including working in cross functional teams are extremely important to be successful in this role.

Key duties include

  • Design of industrial power electronics circuits for 230V/400V/690V systems

  • Design of analogue electronic circuits

  • Analysis and in-depth fault investigations (e.g. for EMC and ESD)

  • Handle processes and perform changes in different tools (PLM-System, Schematics, ...)

  • Calculation and simulation for topics like lifetime, timing and thermals

  • Design verification and product validation tests against relevant international standards

  • Hands-on design prototyping and debugging

  • Intensive collaboration and information exchange within the cross functional team

Skills & Competencies

  • Electrical and electronics degree or equivalent experience

  • Knowledge and experience of analogue and power electronic circuit design

  • Knowledge and experience of schematic capture and simulation

  • Knowledge and experience of designing for EMC/ESD

  • Appreciation of trade-offs between electrical and mechanical aspects e.g thermal design

  • Quality focussed and capable of working to achieve project timescales

  • Be able to work unsupervised but cooperate well in a team

  • Experience of designing AC motor drives (variable speed drives) would be a significant advantage

  • Experience with PLM-System “Teamcenter” would be advantageous

  • Experience with schematic tool “Zuken CR8000” would be advantageous

  • Specific knowledge of standards (particularly UL and IEC 61800-5-1) would be advantageous

  • Competent using Microsoft tools like Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word.
