Job Title: Environment and Social Specialist

Contract Dates: 30/08/2021 - 04/03/2022

Location: Chippenham

*Outside IR35*

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / TASKS

  • Develop environmental documentation including Environment and Social Management Plans (ESMPs), Environment and Social Risk Assessments (ESRAs) and Site Waste Management Plans

  • Provide input to project planning in relation to ecology, contaminated land, waste, water and pollution prevention.

  • Identify and assist in the implementation of environmental and social opportunities

  • Facilitate the delivery of social value across the business

  • Facilitate the integration of environmental documentation and social sustainability objectives / targets within the project team

  • Manage and undertake environmental inspections and audits of projects and offices/depots

  • Support any environmental and/or social incident investigations

  • Develop and assist in the delivery of environmental and social training to staff and contractors

  • Review new environmental and social legislation and best practice

  • Support the business in ensuring compliance against statutory, project and other identified requirements

  • Provide technical environmental and social advice to all areas of the business (e.g. bidding, commercial, construction, design, etc) and interface with the client / other contractors

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or diploma in environmental management or equivalent 

  • Minimum 3 years professional experience (preferably within environmental management)

  •  Practitioner Membership of IEMA (or equivalent)


COMPETENCIES

Knowledge & Experience: 

  • Ability to draft to and prepare formal reports

  • Actively engaged in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities

  •  Knowledge of ecology, waste management or contaminated land management with general knowledge of other areas

  • Experience within construction industry desired with rail industry experience preferable but not essential

  • Ability to engage with both office and site based personnel and provide constructive feedback and guidance on environmental management issues  

  • Good attention to detail
