Role Description:
This role is for a Network Comms Architect, capable of developing a networks design for various projects. The role will involve taking approved template network architectures and customizing them for the requirements of a project, focusing on that project’s connectivity and cybersecurity requirements along with the performance characteristics of the application system hardware.
The jobholder will be capable of building and maintain strong communication links with telecoms specialists and project delivery teams and will learn to interpret the views of these group and influence delivery strategy, based on the needs of these stakeholders.
The Network Comms Architect will report to the Design Manager and will participate with, and contribute to, the project to achieve the maximum output in producing outline and detailed networks design from the resource available. The role is responsible for the cost, time and the quality performance of allocated project activities. In addition, the role will be required to assist in the generation, production and test regimes in addition to the implementation of testing and validation activity.
What will be my Responsibilities?
The Network Comms Architect will be involved in design, configuration, test involving all the aspect of a signaling network and complete technical work packages, supporting the delivery of:
High Level Network Designs / Function Design Specifications
Network architecture diagrams
IP Addressing/Subnetting design
Cable schematics and diversity plans.
Networks configuration
Factory Acceptance Testing
Onsite build and test
Integration and system testing
The Network Comms Architect shall:
Monitor the progress of their work packages and ensure that the design timescales are met taking remedial action when required
Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work in order that successful project implementation and future reliability is achieved
Evaluate quality and technical accuracy of tenders and make recommendations to obtain the best available outcome for the company
Safety responsibility in terms of Health and Safety legislation and Company procedures
Be capable of checking networks design/configuration produced to the same level or lower level of competence
What do I need to qualify for this job?
Essentials:
Degree level qualification in relevant engineering discipline or other numerate subject or equivalent experience
A demonstrable experience of Network Communication Systems and Architectures, especially LAN/WAN architectures and network security, associated with a safety related environment
Established knowledge of the systems engineering life-cycle
Demonstrable experience of working to industry quality and safety standards
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to communicate technical solutions at all levels.
Able to work to tight timescales
Cisco certified, or at working level, to CCNA or above with extensive applicable experience.
Desirable:
Chartered engineer
IRSE License
Experience in at least one of the following technologies: Software Defined Networking, virtualisation, data centre, network automation
Experience in UK railway operational telecoms design, standards and delivery processes.
Demonstrable knowledge of railway systems
