Job Title: Commercial Manager
Location: Dublin, Ireland
Department: Engineering / Infrastructure / Transportation
Reports to: Head of Commercial or Programme Director
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent (will consider long term Contractor)
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Manager with a strong engineering background to lead and support commercial functions for Irish Rail projects based in Dublin. The ideal candidate will have a relevant engineering degree, chartered status, and significant experience in delivering complex projects, ideally within transportation sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the commercial and contractual aspects of infrastructure and transportation projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and procedures (including NTA, TII, TFI, and IÉ).
Provide commercial oversight across all stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility through design and delivery.
Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.
Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and welfare regulations.
Support and mentor technical teams in applying civil engineering design principles, Eurocodes, and construction standards.
Engage effectively with contractors in design and build environments to ensure commercially viable solutions and smooth project delivery.
Oversee preparation and review of contracts and procurement strategies, ensuring compliance with public sector and Irish construction procurement frameworks.
Contribute to the programming and delivery of works to meet timelines and financial targets.
Support line management responsibilities, including performance reviews and staff development where required.
Perform or supervise the checking of civil engineering deliverables.
Utilise computer analysis tools in the assessment and delivery of technical and commercial solutions.
Represent the organisation in stakeholder meetings, providing clear and professional communication.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Relevant degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and member of a relevant professional institution (e.g., Engineers Ireland).
Proven experience in the application of health, safety, and welfare regulations in an engineering context.
Strong background in the application of civil engineering and construction principles, with experience of project delivery in construction-related markets.
Demonstrable experience working with contractors in a design and build environment.
In-depth understanding of contract conditions and commercial procedures.
Experience with Irish rail or transportation infrastructure is highly desirable.
Familiarity with NTA, TII, TFI, and IÉ standards and procedures is advantageous.
Proficient in programming, cost control, and delivery tracking tools.
Strong knowledge and application of Eurocodes.
