​MPI have a requirement for an Electrical Technician to be based in Stafford on a contract basis.

This role is for approx 9-12 months but could be longer

Rate of pay is £13.42 per hour PAYE

This role is deemed in scope of IR35

Approx 37 hours per week – with regards to overtime, we have been advised - within the scope of access to the site due to a day shift pattern there is overtime available on a Saturday and in the week, but obviously this is not guaranteed and is linked to customer demand which is currently very strong.

Job Description:-

Carry out testing, in depth diagnostics to component level, maintenance, modification, repair and self-certification of serviceability on a variety of customers’ equipment

Complete all relevant and engineering record card, which is a legal and auditable record of all work carried out.

Ensure all work undertaken follows the relevant procedures as defined in the Clients business system and complies with all statutory regulations including COSHH, health, safety and environmental protection instructions.

Identify problems or improvement opportunities and suggest solutions by engaging with various in-house departments or external engineering and commercial staff.

Develop and implement solutions in partnership with the relevant in-house departments and external partners.

Manage own time and workload to meet the requirements of the teams supply plan, satisfying the business and customer delivery requirements.

Assist colleagues by sharing experience and knowledge as required. This can take the form of on the job training.

Carry out all work in accordance with the specified Approved Source Information (ASI).

Ensure all relevant mandatory training is kept up to date.

Ensure tool control is maintained in accordance with the Clients business system.

Maintain work area to the required level of cleanliness to avoid Foreign Object Damage (FOD) and understand why this is important.

Display a high degree of personal professionalism in all aspects of the role.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Must be able to follow electrical and/or mechanical test procedures using a variety of special to type and general-purpose test equipment.

Diagnose electrical and/or mechanical faults in complex avionic, navy or land equipment down to component level.

Carry out repairs and modifications to a wide range of components of varying complexity and age.

Demonstrate suitable hand skills, both mechanical (screwdrivers, spanners, pliers etc.) and electrical (soldering irons, solder rework centres, crimping etc.).

Display an understanding of, and the ability to interpret, complex circuit diagrams and technical drawings.

Have an excellent understanding of practical and theoretical electronics from basic to a complex level.

Understand the dangers of safely testing and working on live equipment, which can include high levels of current/voltage and working in an explosive atmosphere.

Carry out all work to ensure customer satisfaction levels are maintained.

Exhibit and maintain a broad skill set (gained from training/experience) thus enabling the required flexibility to maintain the diverse scope of equipment.

Essential to possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other in house IT systems.

INTELLECTUAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB

Carrying out fault finding on complex equipment with no or minimal guidance from ASI.

Identifying the root cause of problems, not just addressing the symptoms.

Using experience to identify trends or common faults.

Work is comprised of a large quantity of live, on contract tasks5, which are rarely loaded in batches, but repaired as and when necessary as dictated by the customer’s operational requirements. This can result in unplanned work being scheduled with no or minimal notice. Due to the nature of the business, demands are placed using a ‘priority’ system, which changes due to the operational requirements of the customer, and whether the demand was placed during a time of peace or hostilities. At its extreme, this can mean a turn round time measured in hours rather than days.

A large degree of autonomy is placed on the technician to fulfil work in a timely manner, planning it within the overall needs of the team and the business.

Work and therefore decision making are carried out under a scheme of self supervision (or supervision by equivalent grade technicians, and in certain cases, independent inspection by a third technician).

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Have completed a recognised relevant Electrical and Electronic Engineering apprenticeship or similar accredited training. Appropriate industry experience (in a similar military electronic repair role) may be deemed sufficient.

At least hold a BTEC ONC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Hold and maintain the relevant MAOS authorisations appertaining to the work groups required

It is necessary to be able to clearly identify components and wiring which are purposely marked with colours to identify their characteristics. Because of this, individuals in the role cannot be colour-blind
