MPI are looking for a permanent Project Manager for our aviation-based customer based in Hampshire.

 Job Purpose

Ensure that each project has been accepted/integrated into the schedule and appropriate planning is in place. Monitor progress and to highlight risks to delivery. To ensure group targets are met and deficiencies in performance are reported back to the Senior Management Team. Identify areas for improvement and assist with the recruitment and development of a competent project management function within the business.

Financial & Role accountabilities

Responsible for providing reporting to the senior management and financial teams on the status of key programmes.

KPIs to be defined on individual basis upon commencement of role.

Main Tasks/Accountabilities

Undertake project management of assigned business projects. Ensure roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders, internal and external, are clearly defined, requirements are understood, and delivery dates are suitably forecast.

Monitor performance of projects to ensure that they are being dealt with efficiently and in line with customer expectations. Any variations to plan to be flagged, issues identified and reported accordingly.

Become single point of contact for the client with external funding bodies, particularly in relation to government funded projects. Disseminate and collate information throughout the rest of the business accordingly.

Manage all project governance requirements. Attend all project meetings, including consortium led projects, and create any material required to ensure the continued progression of the project, such as slides for monthly meetings, completion of reporting etc.

Deliver projects against the phased cost budget in line with regulator expectations. Report any expense variances and provide commentary against each individual line to explain discrepancies to forecast. Provide financial reporting.

Ensure that all legal paperwork is reviewed and completed in a timely manner and make sure they adheres to the limitations and requirements of all agreements.

Create a master schedule of key projects across the business including new/potential opportunities, understanding the interface between different departments. This will need to be updated and shared weekly. It should be simple and easy to understand.

Ensure that commercial policies and procedures are adhered to for the delivery of projects. Introduce performance metrics for project and build routinely released reporting to distribute the information to the appropriate stakeholders. Measurements will depend on the business but will include on-time delivery against contracted milestones as a minimum.

Providing reporting on the status of the programme plan on a weekly basis. Flagging any barriers to success and issues requiring immediate attention. This is both for internal and customer facing purposes.

To update company wide project management policies and procedures. To ensure that there is common best practice and that there are clear measures for success and ways to ensure business improvement. This includes checking that customers are receiving routine status reports.

Where necessary “roll your sleeves up” to deliver high profile/strategically significant projects prior to hand over to a competent project manager.

Capture and report on any contract changes which will have a commercial impact such as emergent work.

Expedite commercial/sales processes to ensure that emergent requirements are responded to efficiently.

Actively seek new opportunities to sell or upgrade aircraft or introduce new products and or service to the company.

Maintain co-operative and productive inter-departmental and inter-company relationships and procedures to deliver exceptional customer services at all times.

Assist in the preparation of bids, proposals, tenders and pricing. Seek out opportunities, present to the Senior Leadership Team for consideration. Gather input from appropriate SMEs during any application process. Ensure that the review and submission process is managed in a timely manner.

Processing orders on the database system including creating quotes, order acknowledgements, raising purchase orders and invoicing. Chase and expedite delivery where required.

Create detailed project plans which include but are not limited to assumptions, dependencies, exclusions, project schedules, risk registers, communication plans, change management and reporting & monitoring.

Understand and report on activity in the market including potential opportunities.

Prioritise workload according to business needs, customer priorities and management direction.

Build strong customer and supplier relationships. Promote the brand and improve customer perception.

Assess, train and effectively manage the team towards a shared company vision.

Set realistic and achievable objectives that ensure individual accountability for their roles.

Evaluate staffing levels and recruit quality individuals as required.

Build / maintain relationships with relevant internal or external stakeholders as required.

Maintain professional and / or technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.

Understand the company’s ethos, the purpose of the business and maintain company confidentiality at all times.

Comply with appropriate legislation, current regulations and Company policies and procedures as set out in the Company handbook and other publications either available to you through company shared areas or communicated to you from time to time.

Education/Qualifications

Project Management qualification - Desirable

5 GCSEs Grade A*-C - Essential

Further education in Project Management or business qualifications - Desirable

Considerable in project management/delivery.

Demonstrable /Management experience

Proven experience within an industry similar position with emphasis on high value international contracts in a manufacturing/aerospace or engineering environment.

Good knowledge of Microsoft office.

Previous experience in project governance and government funded projects

Strong commercial background and keen understanding of planning, budgeting and reporting.
