SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

 

MPI are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a permanent position for our client who is based at Cranfield, Bedfordshire.

 

Salary

£40,000 - £50,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

 

SUMMARY

Our Client is looking for a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to support both R&D and development of drone infrastructure products.

We are aiming to recruit someone with 5+ years of experience and proven track record of the items listed in the job spec.

COMPANY DESCRIPTION

The company is based in Cranfield and specialises in drone infrastructure. Their drone docking stations enable drones to be automatically housed, deployed, recovered and recharged without the direct need for user’s manipulation. You will be complementing a highly dynamic team of engineers composed of software and electrical engineers.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for:

-Improving the design of submodules of the drone docking stations (drone interface, housing mechanism, transportation mount, etc.)

-Producing designs for each submodule that can be taken to production

-Developing suitable actuation systems

-Assisting in obtaining certifications like CE marking, IP rating and electromagnetic compliance

-Visiting UK-based parts suppliers and fabrication shops, request quotes and manage orders

-Producing technical drawings for the tooling of the bespoke parts of your design

-Maintaining accurate part lists and find ways of reducing costs

-Producing assembly guide for future low volume manufacturing

As the company develops, there will be opportunities to:

-Set up a low volume manufacturing line at the company’s premises

-Engage, prepare documents and manage relationship with our Contract Manufacturer in preparation for larger production

REQUIRED SKILLS

-Proficient with Autodesk-Fusion 360, Solidworks or equivalent

-Knowledgeable about methods of production in order to ensure manufacturability of designs

-Familiar with dealing with fabrication shops

-Mechanically proficient and capable of manufacturing prototypes in-house

-Design using existing parts from UK-based suppliers’ catalogues

Please note that you will work in autonomy on Mechanical related subjects. It is important to have good communication skills and be capable of working as part of a robotics team with an appreciation for software and electrical constraints.
