Purpose
Defined responsibilities and requirements for level crossing competent signalling design engineers. This is required tosupport the development of logic-based level crossings, including MCB, MCB-CCTV, MCB-OD2, AHB, MSL, AOCL.
Outline Responsibilities
Support the Alstom Engineering Manager to deliver a programme of works to defined budget and timescales.
Production/verification of level crossing compliance reports and gap analysis.
Production/verification of interface descriptions based on the level crossing sub-system architecture.
Participate in HAZID meetings and identify relevant level crossing system and operational hazards.
Support interfacing sub-system designers with level crossing input/output requirements.
Production/verification of level crossing wiring and level crossing PLC application logic equations for MCB, MCB-CCTV, MCB-OD2, AHB, MSL, and AOCL type crossings.
Support RAM engineers with system reliability, availability, and maintenance analysis specific to the level crossing sub-system.
Input in to design and engineering logs, risk register, non-compliance register, Hazard log, and design assumptions.
Support evidence gathering to satisfy level crossing sub-system requirements.
Support safety assurance engineers with any acceptance and approvals, safety case evidence, and hazard close out specific to the level crossing sub-system.
Support testing activities by providing design guidance.
Role Requirements/Competencies
Essential:
Knowledge of and have applied Network Rail level crossing standards and typical circuits
Knowledge of the regulation and guidance overseen by the ORR (Office of Rail & Road)
Knowledge of and have applied Level crossing principles for MCB-CCTV, MCB-OD, AHB, MSL, and AOCL UK level crossing types
Knowledge of and have applied CDM (Construction, Design and Management Regulations)
Knowledge of and have applied CSM (Common Safety Method)
Knowledge of level crossing systems, technology, lineside and control center equipment
Knowledge of system safety considerations including system reaction times and interfaces
Knowledge of level crossing operational risks that are required to be mitigated for the various level crossing types and how these are captured within the design
1.145 IRSE Engineering Managers Licence or 1.1.550 IRSE Principles Design Licence
Knowledge of engineering interface with other disciplines (Civils, Electrification and Telecommunications)
