​Our client base at Cranfield university are looking for a Technical Assistant / Junior Maintenance/Handy person to join them on a PERMANENT basis who can:-

Provide daily first class support for technical, student and academic 
colleagues by undertaking a range of core activities such as
• Carrying out a range of regular tests on facility equipment, such as LEV 
checks, first aid, spill kit checks, flushing of water systems for legionella 
prevention etc. Record their completion and raise any failures to ensure 
resolution, if unable to rectify yourself.
• Manage the provision of labcoats, boiler suits and other workwear, enabling 
lab users to change their garments, prepare dirty garments for laundry and 
storing clean garments appropriately
• Carry out a range of regular maintenance tasks to support the operation of 
lab equipment, such as cleaning filters on low temperature freezers, 
vacuum pumps
• Manage the provision of basic lab consumables such a blue roll, gloves, 
ensuring sufficient stocks are always available. Raise orders for 
replacements
• Move consumables and other goods around campus and occasionally 
transport goods and equipment off campus
• Check compressed gas levels daily and change cylinders as and when 
required
• Operate the autoclave for biohazardous waste
• Prepare a wide range of materials for hazardous/offensive waste disposal
and meet contractor to enable smooth collection
• Know and be able to arrange for disposal of a range of laboratory wastes, 
such as general waste, recyclable waste, WEEE, bulky waste, glass and 
sharps.
• Ensure facility bins are labelled clearly at all times and assist lab users 
with correct disposal routes
• Assist researcher to remove bulk wastes from laboratory areas
• Assist in the cleaning and stock management of laboratory glassware
• Be able to deal with routine queries from laboratory users in relation to 
any of the above

Salary level 3 – range £22,204 to £24,549 per annum 
with potential progression after 12 months to £27,972 per annum

37 hours per week, normally worked Monday to 
Friday. Flexible working will be considered.
