Job description
MPI have a requirement for Machinist to work on site in Bristol
Approx 6 month contract with the possibility of becoming ongoing as per Customer requirements.
Pay rate: Days £19.40 per hour PAYE 3 on 4 Off /Nights £26.77 per hour PAYE/After stamp is gained £27.86 per hour PAYE
Shift pattern: 3 on 4 off nights working a 17 week rotation - (one shift Sunday Monday Tuesday -12 hour shifts with paid breaks working 7pm to7 am) (Second shift Weds Thursday Friday Nights) *May be period on Core Days of approx. 4 weeks whilst settle into the role – how long in days will depend on the individuals experience*
Role purpose:-
To operate as a multi-skilled, flexible worker to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
Tasks will be undertaken and worked through the use of:
Machining of parts aircraft parts to drawing specification
Checking of parts using conventional equipment including height gauges
Micrometers, vernier, calipers to meet required specification
Working to engineering drawings
Manufacturing to defined high tolerances
Manually or mechanically move components to ensure the effective flow of production within the cell
Deburring for onward safe handling only
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure parts are produced on a ‘right first time’ basis
2. Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
3. Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
4. Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
5. Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures
6. Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974
7. To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)
8. Record all downtime on OEE sheets
9. Management of machine stoppages with maintenance and escalation as required
10. Completion of Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM)
11. Management of 5S within area ie. tooling, work set station and general area
12. Employee Involvement (EI)
13. Export Control Requirements
Champion ‘Export Control’ compliance activities, ensuring you and where applicable, members of your team, adhere to the site ‘Technology Control Plan (TCP)’, guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations, controls, training and systems
14. Health and Safety Requirements
Compliance with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities
• Reporting of all incidents, accidents and near misses as per the company’s procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions
• Responsible for keeping machines tidy and maintain good standards of housekeeping in designated work area(s)
Qualifications and Skills Required:-
Apprenticeship Industry related or minimum Level 3 City & Guilds or NVQ’s – Our client may consider a degree if you have a few years machining experience including 5 Axis, all the machines are 5 Axis so all candidates will need previous experience with 4 and 5 Axis machines.
Ideally have previous manufacturing experience in a factory environment
Specific Functional Capability , knowledge and skills required.
• Ability to work to standard operating procedures
• Must be able to work in small teams with Process Team Leaders
• Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives
• Self-motivated team player with good communication skills
